I am a long time Orange County resident, and have been privileged to serve as your elected Assessor for the last 12 years. As an experienced private and public-sector business manager, I understand the needs of business and the limitations we want in government.
As your Assessor, I have been proactive in making appropriate reductions to property tax assessments. In 2009, my staff reviewed 280,000 properties to determine if they were eligible for a value reduction. Reductions were made on 202,000 properties. In 2010, we are reviewing 317,000 properties for possible value reduction.
The staff of the Assessor's office has not increased since 1989 - while the number of real estate parcels jumped by 32% from 679,800 parcels to 897,500 parcels. This was accomplished through consistent management and careful planning, combined with the effective use of technology and a professional and committed workforce.
Orange County has a dynamic and diverse real estate market, and the County is facing many challenges and difficulties for homeowners and businesses brought on by this recession. My proven record of conservative leadership, innovation and integrity will help us face issues with understanding that comes from years of business experience.
